Antoine Johnson is a certified Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) and Economically Disadvantaged Woman-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) specializing in architectural design and planning, project management, and construction management. Headquartered in southern New Jersey and founded by Jewell Antoine-Johnson with a guiding principle to promote design, sustainability, innovation, and integrity, Antoine Johnson is one of the few construction firms in the United States led by a Black woman.

According to Antoine Johnson via the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, “It’s no secret that there are few minority and even fewer women owned construction companies in this industry. Diversity and Inclusion is a company core value and a part of the project approach for every project we pursue. We strive to be a trailblazer for women and minorities in construction.”

SDB and EDWOSB certification “helps provide a level playing field for women business owners,” through reserved federal contract opportunities, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. Serving as the founder and managing partner of an SDB and EDWOSB firm, Jewell Antoine-Johnson is proudly advancing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion within the construction industry.

A recent STO Building Group MWDBE Spotlight on Jewell Antoine-Johnson noted she graduated from Howard University in Washington D.C. with a B.A. in Architecture and spent the first 16 years of her professional career working for some of Philadelphia’s most notable firms. “Ultimately, my goal was to establish a design-build firm. I knew that to be successful in business and construction, I needed mentors in this industry. I was fortunate to build those relationships and started my business in 2009,” said Antoine-Johnson.

Jewell Antoine-Johnson believes “the built environment should reflect sustainable design innovation and promote the craft of architecture.” In the MWDBE Spotlight, she also stated that, “We offer at-risk construction management services and owner representative services. Given our team’s design background, we are able to plan and manage projects with each stakeholder’s (owner, designer, contractor) perspective in mind.”

In addition to her roles at Antoine Johnson, Jewell Antoine-Johnson is a proud graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program and was recently appointed to a seat on the New Jersey Economic Development Board by Governor Murphy.
