On January 3, 2023, The New Jersey Globe announced that Governor Phil Murphy would soon be naming a Camden businesswoman, Jewell Antoine-Johnson of the architectural planning, design, and construction management firm, Antoine Johnson, as an alternate New Jersey Economic Development Board member. This prediction came true in February, when Antoine-Johnson was appointed to fill the vacant seat left by Rosemari Hicks. In a recent news report published on the official website of the State of New Jersey, Antoine-Johnson stated that, “It’s an honor to be appointed to the EDA Board and sit amongst so many accomplished New Jerseyans dedicated to serving their state. For over two decades, I’ve been in the architectural and construction industry, leading with a commitment to sustainability, innovation, and integrity. I look forward to applying that experience to help build a thriving, more resilient New Jersey economy.” Antoine-Johnson is joining veteran New Jersey Economic Development Authority Board Members, Virginia S. Bauer and Aisha Glover, New Jersey Economic Development Authority CEO, Tim Sullivan, and incoming Chairman of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, Terence “Terry” O’Toole, according to www.nj.gov. About Jewell Antoine-Johnson After graduating with a B.A. in Architecture from Howard University in Washington D.C. and working for some of Philadelphia’s most notable firms over the course of 16 years, Jewell Antoine-Johnson founded Antoine Johnson in 2009. The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce notes that, “there are few minority and even fewer women owned construction companies in this industry,” and as such, Jewell Antoine-Johnson is a “trailblazer” in her field. Serving as Managing partner of an SDB and EDWOSB firm, Antoine-Johnson believes “the built environment should reflect sustainable design innovation and promote the craft of architecture.” In a 2021 General Building Contractors Association spotlight, Antoine-Johnson said, “I love being a part of the process of transforming an idea into something you can experience, whether it is helping a client navigate challenges to successful projects or offering career opportunities. What I love most about running my own business is I get to have a direct impact on every aspect of the business from marketing and team development to project management and implementation.” The team at Antoine Johnson congratulates Jewell Antoine-Johnson on her impressive appointment by Governor Murphy to the New Jersey Economic Development Board, and we wish her continued success in all her endeavors!
